Loyalty can go a along way in the hood. In fact being loyal can help you get out the hood or keep you there for ever. In,” Random Family “being loyal seems to mean nothing to many of the characters. You go from people stealing things from one another whether its personal belongings or peoples boyfriends and girl friends. Also you have your want to be thug’s or drug dealers running around robbing other drug dealers that the most likely went to school with. Then there’s the time where people do act loyal and trust worthy. For example the time when, Jessica flew to Puerto Rico and left Coco with her child. That shows a lot of trust. You don’t just leave your child with anybody while traveling on vacation. Or the time when it took Jessica two hard working months to scrape up the 5,000 dollar bail. Now if that’s not loyalty then I don’t know what is. It seems to me that the theme of this portion of the book is loyalty. A mans word is every thing to him. But being loyal to some one is better then giving your word. Loyalty doesn’t come around much. So if there’s some one that’s loyal to you right now, you might have a lifetime friend waiting
One major event that happened in our section was when Coco tossed a party for Mercedes birthday. That day it gave the cops a perfect opportunity to run down on her, In my eyes. They wouldn’t need any probable cause. According to an NYPD agent, “there weren’t any plans to arrest Jessica that spring.” They were just keeping tabs on her to see if she would lead them to the big money. This was a major event cause now Jessica is in the position to get her self out if she wants. She has the option of testifying in court, according to the case agent. Because Jessica is in the predicament that she is, George if forced to put a hit out on Jessica who suppose to be his right hand girl, which eventually get the money for his bail.
I'm a writing professor at Hudson County Community College. I have been teaching here for about 10 years, and I love working with the eclectic bunch of students I meet each semester.
